HISTORY: During WW2 Milkweed was used to stuff over 2 million life vest! Milkweed was used as a painkiller, a pulmonary aid, and to treat diarrhea. In addition, fibers from the stems were utilized to make belts and the roots were ingested to treat rheumatism and pleurisy.
WATERING: Every 3 days as a seedling, then biweekly (until soil moist).

Broom sedge bluestem
HISTORY: The dryness of this plant species makes it significantly flammable. After fire, broomsedge has the ability to quickly regenerate from its root system Andropogon comes from the Greek word Andros, which equals the word, man, and Pogon equals the word, beard. This is derived from the assumption that the hairy spikelet's characteristic of the genus are said to look very similar to that of a man's beard.

Smoothoxeye
HISTORY: Heliopsis from the Greek word helios for "sun" and opsis for "appearance." Helianthoides also from the Greek meaning "like Helianthus," the sunflower. Smooth oxeye is considered one of the best hardy plants for a wildflower garden border. It performs well in dry (xeric) locations, in poor to average soils, and in full sun to partial shade.
